Release Certification for Your Store App
A release certification gets an unchanged ServiceNow Store app certified for a new family release. We test it on the new release on your vendor instance, revise the test plan with the results, and submit it. It costs US$1,500 per app, fixed, with one free resubmission.

What a Release Certification Involves
For an app with no code or listing changes
- Move a vendor instance to the new release. We agree which one with you first: ServiceNow says “Instances can be upgraded but not downgraded” (KB0794197).
- Test your app as it is. We install the certified version and run your test plan on the new release.
- Revise the test plan. ServiceNow asks for “a revised version of your Scoped Application Test Plan along with the results” (App Publisher blog).
- Submit and answer the review. If review raises a finding on what we tested, one resubmission is free.
Your design document and installation guide stay as they are, and so does the version number.
One Fixed Price per App
Agreed in writing before any work starts
US$1,500 per app, per family release. Book the next release before ServiceNow ships it, and it’s $1,250 per app, or 3 apps for $3,000.
Your quote gives a submission date. We need access to your vendor instance and your current test plan. See every price.
Release Certification or Recertification?
What changed in your app decides which one it needs
| Release certification | Recertification | |
|---|---|---|
| When | Your app hasn’t changed, and a new family release is out | You changed the code or the listing |
| What ServiceNow asks for | A revised test plan with the results | The design document, test plan and installation guide brought up to date, with any listing changes |
| Version number | Stays the same | A new version |
| Our price | $1,500 per app | A fix pack, $2,500–3,000, quoted from a check |

Why Each Release Matters
A listing is only as current as its newest certification
In our experience, a Store listing stays live while its newest certification is one of the last three family releases. ServiceNow’s Upgrade Policy says it “generally releases two new release families per year”.
In our study of the Store, 158 of 1,442 installable partner apps were certified to Yokohama and nothing newer. They are the first out when Brazil ships.
Common Questions
What does ServiceNow ask for in a release certification?
For an app you haven’t changed, ServiceNow asks for “a revised version of your Scoped Application Test Plan along with the results”. That means testing the app on the new family release and recording the results. The design document and installation guide stay as they are.
What if testing finds a problem?
Then the app needs a code change, and a changed app is a recertification, not a release certification. We list the findings and quote a fix pack, $2,500–3,000, before any work starts. The fixed app gets a new version and goes through review with updated documents.
How long does a release certification take?
In our experience, plan on roughly 2–3 weeks from upgrading your vendor instance. About a week goes on retesting and revising the test plan; the rest is ServiceNow’s review, for which it publishes no figure. Your quote gives a submission date, and Keep It Certified shows the calendar.
Why book the next release ahead?
ServiceNow “generally releases two new release families per year”, so a Store app needs a release certification about every six months to stay current. Booked before the next release ships, it costs $1,250 per app instead of $1,500, or $3,000 for three apps.
Do you need access to our vendor instance?
Yes. ServiceNow says “Partners can publish to the ServiceNow Store only from a vendor instance” (KB0794197), so we test and submit from yours. We also need your current test plan, which we revise with the new family’s results. Your customers’ instances are never touched.
